Smoky Eyes

I have some thing to confess.
When it comes to make-up I score a big Zero.
However I do love Kohls and eye-liners.
I feel naked without earrings and the same goes for my eyes.
Without the liner and kajal I can never step out.

At the behest of a fellow blogger and follower I decided to bring something to this blog that would be helpful in grooming myself a little bit more too- A small little lesson in make-up. I just love this trend of eye make-up that  is doing the rounds. Smoky Eyes!

oooo how it makes those beautiful eyes look seductive. A whole new personality surfaces...
So here goes Rose aka Ms. Inky Pink  tells us how this is done.
She works with a very basic professional eye make-up set from Kuwait.
But you may find many lovely ones with Chambor / Maybelline she says.

Step 1. : You need a Mettalic Eye Shadows Pallet and an applicator.


Step 2 & 3: You will need to cover the eye lid and the area under the eyebrow with a base of the metallic white you see in the left top corner of the pallet. 
Then only the top of the eyelid gets a coat of the lightest shade of silver on the pallet ( Top right corner) And the eye will look like this..

Step 4: Then proceed to apply the darker shade of silver on the eye-lid (Centre of the vertical row of silvers in the right hand corner of the eye make-up set)
Moving the applicator from the inside corner of the eye to the outside in smooth strokes but stop in the middle of the eye. Like this..
 

 We are trying to achieve a gradation of shades from dark to light metallic silver beginning from the inner corner of the eye-lid to the outer corner.

Step 5:   Then take the darkest charcoal silver shade on your applicator and apply it on the inner corner of the eye-lid with smooth but short strokes. Like this..

 

Now we are almost done. She has taught me the simplest method of achieving the smoky eyed look.

Step 6: Give the finishing touches with a wet waterproof eye-liner . Trace the shape of your eye on the upper eye-lid and from the outside on the lower eye-lid and it will look like this...

Step 7: She shapes the brow with a black Givenchi kajal pencil to enhance the smoky look and to refine the shape.

Wearing a day eye make-up  done in a similar style but working with lighter shades Riya looked like this....

When its cloudy and dark outside, you needn't be gloomy inside.
Bright nail colours are here. Painting your nails with bright Matte colours is IN.
And it is also an instantaneously effective way to lift your spirit on a gloomy, rainy day.
SO if you are at work or stranded at home, see that you have a bottle of one of these colours handy..And paint way...

However see that you are not sporting too loud and disturbing colours on your nails at meetings, conferences and other formal occassions at work. Try mettalic shades of gold, white, bronze and graphite.)

Before, I usually wore nail colours that suited my skin tone, selecting them very cautiously. An they were mostly neutrals and mettalics but this time the trend is to let go off all inhbitions and go wild with these extremely zanny shades. And you may even wear a contrasting colour to your outfit highlighting your fingers, without a care!

This Mango shade is one of the wildest Ive sported this season besides the neon green I dared to wear the other day. You can see one of the other available shades of green on my friends long, fair, slender fingers.

The photographs are not doing full justice. You would find that the nails looked even more awesome if you saw it in person. I tried an electric Blue shade with a single swish of sparkle on top, on my nails the other night. We are both wearing Black and these colourful nails just made us look more chic!

Following these nail trends will give a new lease to your fashion sense and will also speak a lot about your personality. SO go ahead and indulge.  Make 'em look more delicious!

After this old favourite between flats, the Gladiator sandal or Gladiator strap boot, is a trend which has been developing for a year or two.  These were picked up from a shoemaker's shop at the Mahabaleshwar market.

On the other hand it’s the marriage season in India too. Picking the right footwear to go with the saree is as important as wearing the right clutch to match ethnic wear.

These Summer smooth sandals are also going well with this vibrant Kanjivaram sari. So dont hesitate to experiment.

Kolhapuris and Juttis are excellent for this purpose and even apt for following the ethnic eclectic trend. Wear them with your western casuals and get that Indo-fusion look.  I picked up these Indian beaded and sequined Juttis from a traditional shoe-maker in one of the Peth areas of  Pune.

I quote a summer fashion tip from a fashionista friend, “ Please keep off Osho chappals! They are definitely a big fashion faux pas, especially under torn jean ends…”

Bangles-mania

Summer Fashion accessories are fun, chic and colourful this season, again!

 

Glam trends continue to ruminate on the big, funky & chunky types. Louis Vuitton, Oscar de la renta, Gucci, and Lanvin all spiced up their Spring runways with an accessories overload of oversized baubles. And following the fashion clue they’ve triggered, I hoarded on my favourites too- Bangles!

These large, coloured Vegetable Dye Wooden Bangles and Metal, Acrylic & Resin bangles are easily available in tempting variety at almost every accessory shops in metros. 

This one is a prize catch for me. Picked it up at WestSide. Observe the beautiful grainy layer in the Mica used in the bangle. Never found another piece, like this one again!

 The Boho-chic look is in! Put it together for a glamorous party-time with these shiny, funky bangles that can spruce up any outfit and make the right style statement for the eve'!

One of my other favourite look is that you can put together with some animal-print accesories, like this..

 Take your pick that best suits your style. These chunky bangles go well with almost any and every clothing style. Wear them single or pair them up or better still, rack them up on your wrist in vibrant combinations and make heads turn!

How to be a Yummy Mummy

What you see here is a  Bat wing sleeve dress by Chanel.

I'm absolutely in love with this pattern. A fantastic design to hide that extra ugly flab, in style.

I was wishing  I could get hold of one of these to veil my newly acquired tire around the tummy.
That's when I could not believe my eyes when I spotted a similar mint green dress at a  nearby boutique.

It was almost like I leaped forward, towards the only piece that hung on the rack, tried it on and immediately made it mine. :)
Believe me, it did help me make a style statement, even with the extra chub I now sport.

On Mother's Day...

Thought this could be useful for mums-to-be or new mommas because I found it a terribly useful and interesting way to make a home-made less leaky nappy for my tiny tot. So here goes.. Step by step instructions to making one on your own..3 cheers to mommahood..And many thanks to my neighbour 'grey haired know-it-all' granny from whom I got this fantabulous tip!

Step 1: Fold a 24" X 24" white nappy cloth into a perfect square by matching the corners..like we learnt in origami at school girlies....

Step 2: Pull out the top right hand corner (towards your left) to form a triangle like in the image.

Step 3: Turn over to the other side of the triangle and fold the left side of the square in to look so as in the image.

Step 4: Now turn the right side back to your left to form a double layered rectangle in the centre of the triangle. This forms the seat of the nappy.

Step 5: Pull both the ears of the triangle in to look as in the image. Your nappy is almost ready...

Step 6: Now get a safe baby nappy pin. Fold the seat and flaps together and pin them up. Your neat Nappy is ready!

If you loved origami at school I'm sure you'll make better looking ones than mine!
